Tax Credit Increase Approved!

In an effort to provide financial relief and support to Canadians, Finance Canada has officially announced an approval for an increase to the Volunteer Fighter Fighters Tax Credit and the Search and Rescue Volunteers Tax Credit to $6,000 from $3,000 in 2024. This progressive move is expected to positively impact a vast number of taxpayers, contributing to the nation’s economic resilience.

Our President Dale Kirsch was in Ottawa during July of 2023 representing CASARA and all other SAR volunteers on this very important matter: the increase in tax credit for firefighters and search and rescue volunteers. He was alongside Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs (CAFC) Board Member Paul Boisonneault on behalf of CAFC, and President Ken McMullen, Brian Starkell from Volunteer Firefighters of Canada. NDP MP Gord Johns was pushing for this with the liberal government and now we now have final confirmation that it has been attained.

After extensive consultations and considerations, the approved adjustments will see a substantial rise in non-refundable tax credits. These credits are designed to alleviate the tax burden on individuals and families, allowing them to retain more of their hard-earned income.

A great update for our Canadian Search and Rescue volunteers!
